The Balmoral Hotel

Adam Simpson, Team @YOURgb Event Coordinator, is bowled over by The Balmoral Hotel…

I had heard so much about this iconic hotel since it’s renovations and couldn't wait to see what all of the buzz was about….

I was immediately impressed as I walked into the grand foyer – bowled over by the sheer opulence of the place! I was then warmly greeted by their superb Events and Sales Manager, Frances Maurer. Frances has worked for The Balmoral for over 10 years and I instantly knew that there was no one else better placed to show me around such a wonderful venue. I was as excited to meet Frances as I was about seeing around the hotel – she is a bit of a legend in the events world by all accounts!

The ground floor hosts four beautiful, interconnecting rooms - the main hall has the capacity to hold 300 guests with 8 large pillars in the centre of the room, providing the ability to change the shape and layout of the entire space.  The four rooms can be broken down to meet your requirements, be that cloak/meeting rooms, reception rooms, dining rooms, dinner dance rooms… providing guests with the ability to move through these areas with comfort and ease – what a flexible space!!

I was then taken up to the first floor and shown around their additional six event spaces  – these rooms are flexible in room set up, capacity and can be linked in pairs - perfect for conference breakout sessions.

I was also fortunate enough to be shown around one of their ‘Superior Deluxe Rooms’. The view of Edinburgh Castle is pretty spectacular and the spacious room ticked all the usual 5 star boxes, whilst keeping a charm and warmth about it. Frances informed me that all rooms (161 rooms in total; 36 classic, 83 executive, 24 deluxe, 18 super deluxe, and 28 suits) have unique Scottish themes; infusions of purple/green tweeds and luxury fabrics with some beautiful artwork from local inspiring artists hanging on the walls.

One of the stand out features of The Balmoral Hotel is very recent refurbishment to its ‘Number One’ Restaurant. Holding its Michelin Star status for the 13th Consecutive year, its contemporary feel coupled with well-placed table set up and intimate lighting, makes a perfect venue for either private functions or guest dining.

I would highly recommend a visit to the Balmoral Hotel – whether you are looking for a superb venue to hold your event, or just to try their superbly delicious afternoon tea. It’s certainly a place that didn’t fail to impress me.
