The Place Hotel

Adam Simpson, Team @YOURgb Event Coordinator, believes that The Place Hotel is the place to be.

@YOURgb had the great pleasure of visiting one of Edinburgh’s recently refurbished hotels at the east end of York Place, The Place Hotel.

I wasn't aware that the hotel had currently gone through a recent refurbishment to their event spaces and outdoor courtyard, and therefore when I got the call inviting me to view this property I instantly wanted to see a hotel that I hadn’t any pre-existing knowledge about.

Firstly what struck me about this fine hotel was how central and convenient it was for visitors arriving into the capital. This hotel is literally a 30 second walk from the York Place tram stop – therefore perfect for visitors arriving by air - jumping on the tram from the airport and arriving outside their hotel within an hour (all for minimal costs!!)

I was met immediately by their incredibly friendly and knowledge hotel manager, Stephen McLay who showed me straight to there newly refurbed ‘courtyard’.
This for me was the WOW factor of this hotel. This outdoor seating area – is large enough to hold up to 80 people seated or up to 120 people in a reception style. One of the most impressive features in this area is the retractable roof, which can be opened and closed– in ONLY 42 seconds! This space can be exclusively hired out for private events.

I was then shown around their newly developed boardroom which has large beautiful windows spanning stunning views of the firth of the forth and bestows strong natural light making it a fresh, crisp room to host any meeting, conference or event in.

Their main event space(s) hold from 120 people to 220 people dependant on room set-up – with partitioning walls the room can either be kept as two separate rooms (capacity of main room 120 seated) or interlinked with the second breakout room (capacity 80/100 seated). The most outstanding feature of these great event spaces in the rich Georgian cornices that lace the high ceiling in both rooms.

I was lastly shown around one of their ‘Junior Suite’ bedrooms, that displayed more wonderful views over the North of Edinburgh and across the firth of the forth. Stephen informed me that all 47 of their boutique rooms are unique and designed to give guests the upmost luxurious stay.

The £4million refurbishment is sure to make this hotel one of the most desirable hotspots in Edinburgh, whether that be for drinks, a weekend stay or large scale event, The Place Hotel and its staff are sure to have it all covered.
